Dr. Andrew F. Smith directs the research team at MedMetrics Inc. He is a health economist and epidemiologist with over 30 years of international experience across Canada, the United States, the UK and Europe, and has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications. Prior to founding MedMetrics Inc., he served as Regional Health Economics Manager for Europe, Mediterranean, and Africa at Alcon Laboratories Ltd. (2001–2007), leading health economics and outcomes research as well as market access initiatives in ocular pharmaceuticals and medical devices. Dr. Smith holds degrees from McGill University (BA), the University of London (MSc, PhD), and the University of Aberdeen (MSc). He has previously held several academic appointments including as a Visiting Professor at King’s College London (2014–2024), a Senior Lecturer at the University of Bath, and has been affiliated with institutions such as the Nuffield Laboratory of Ophthalmology at the University of Oxford, the University of Michigan, Wills Eye Hospital and McGill. He has advised government, academic, and industry organizations on health economics, epidemiology, and health services research, and is a member of leading professional societies including the Royal Statistical Society and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology.
