Dr Andrew F. Smith is a health economist and epidemiologist with more than 30 years of international experience spanning academia, life sciences and healthcare research.
He has authored or co-authored more than 100 scientific publications and has particular expertise in the health economics and epidemiology of eye disease.
Prior to establishing MedMetrics, Dr Smith served as Regional Health Economics Manager for Europe, Mediterranean and Africa at Alcon Laboratories, where his responsibilities encompassed health economics, outcomes research, pricing, reimbursement and market access for ophthalmic pharmaceuticals and medical devices. His academic career has included appointments or affiliations with King's College London, the University of Bath, University of Oxford, University of Michigan, Wills Eye Hospital and McGill University.
His academic training includes health economics, epidemiology, public health and eye health, with degrees from McGill University, the University of London and the University of Aberdeen.
Research Philosophy: The most useful health-economic research begins with a clinically important question and ends with evidence that someone can use to make a better healthcare decision.
